National Grid connects to Yathedaung

          National Grid connects to Yathedaung

Yathedaung in Rakhine start  can state to use electricity via National Grid on 1st April, 2018.

Along the  Ponnagyun - Yathedaung - Buthidaung road, silver transmission towers and transmission lines can be seen proudly. So, this is auspicious time for Rakhine State.

Ministry of Electricity and Energy(MOEE) has been constructing 66kV Ponnakyun - Rathedaung - Buthidaung - Maungdaw transmission line (64.5 miles) and substations to supply electricity to Yathedaung, Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas via National Grid. Nowadays, 66kV Ponnakyun - Yathedaung transmission line (22.2 miles) and 66/11kV 5MVA Yathedaung Substation that are first phase of above mentioned project were already completed. Therefore, Yathedaung Township can start to use electricity by National Grid on 1st April, 2018.Formerly, although Yathedaung Township was electrified for a few hours per day by diesel generators, it can use enough electricity soon.

In this first statge, 66/11kV 20MVA transformer was also installed so that to distribute more electricity to Ponnakyun than previously.

Pre-engineering and surveying works for Ponnakyun - Yathedaung Transmission line and Yathedaung Substation has started on September, 2017. Then construction work has started on 1st October, 2017 by the left materials from previous projects.

6 groups for foundation totally 120 workers, 5 groups for tower installation totally 100 workers, 3 groups for connection in transmission line totally 125 workers and 2 groups for substation construction totally 30 workers had performed simultaneously to finish in time schedule.

Yathedaung will be electrified 24 hours and socioeconomic of the public will be developed in near future. MOEE has been constructing with momentum to supply electricity to Buthidaung and Maungdaw regions. These regions will bear fruitful electricity via National Grid coming December 2018.

Under the instruction of government, MOEE has been emphasizing as enthusiasm for continuous electricity supply in nationwide, evidently.

It is significant that MOEE has been trying to supply electricity across the nation via National Grid not only Regions but also States including Rakhine State.

Formerly, National Grid did not reach to Rakhine State and it was electrified only for a few hours by diesel generators every day. Inspite of abundance for natural resources, socioeconomic of  Rakhine State was undeveloped as it should  as due to not enough electricity

In Rakhine State, MOEE has started to survey for electricity supply via National Grid since 2011 and arranged yearly strategy. The construction work has already started in 2012.Successfully construction of  230 kV mega  transmission line from 230 kV Oakshipin Substation in Bago Region (West) to Taunggok, Rakhine State is the beginning of changing for electrical history in Rakhine State.

MOEE has achieved one after another  due to enthusiasm of staffs under MOEE, with the  aid of Rakhine State Government, cooperation of public in this region, cooperation of related ministries and so on. After that, it has been electrified continuity town after town via National Grid.

230 kV lectricity in Taunggok transmitted to Maei via   Taunggok-Maei transmission line. In Maei, transmission line separates into two lines, one for Maei-Ann-Pommakyun and another for Maei-KyaukPhyu. Due to completion of this transmission lines in short time, not only southern Rakhine State but also northern Rakhine State has been electrified via National Grid.

Not only National Grid but also 230 kV Primary Substations has been constructed in Taunggok, Kyaukphyu, Ann and Ponnakyun simultaneously. And then, 66kV Substations were constructed in Sittwe, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Thandwe and Ramvee in the same time.

After 3 years of construction work, Taunggok, Thandwe, Kyaukphyu, Ann, Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Ponnakyun and Sittwe have been electrified continuity in December 2014. During these period, total of 230 kV transmission line (408.25 miles), 230 kV Primary Substation (4)Nos., 66kV transmission line (354.71 miles) and 66 kVsubstation (5)Nos had been constructed.

For all above-mentioned projects, MOEE totally costs USD (102.419) millions including government budget USD (28.349) millions, Indian loan USD (64.07) millions, Chiese grant USD (10) millions. Besides, they cost Myanmar kyats (88) billions. That is new standard of MOEE completed such many projects as within 3 years.

An then, power station , installed capacity (100) MW, has been constructed in Kyaukphyu using natural gas getting from Rakhine State.

And then, MOEE has constructed additional 66 kV transmission line and substations and transmitted to Ma-ei, Minbya, Myebon, Pauktaw and Gwa Townships from National Grid in 2016. For development of electricity in Rakhine State, MOEE has also constructed 230 kV Mann (Minbu) - Ann transmission line. These are not all the performance of MOEE.

Around 2012, the transportation and communication was very difficult due to many mountains in Rakhine State. There is a lot of rains in Rakhine State due to many ponds and rivers. Sea water enters into Rakhine State and it has tide rise as well as fall. Construction Groups had to move the heavy machineries hardly due to mountain ranges. They were very tired.

Nevertheless, our MOEE's staffs have many experience and good qualifications. So, they strode over these difficulties.

          Development of a nation depends on effective electricity consumption. MOEE manages short term and long term plan for electricity distribution in Rakhine State as well as other States / Regions. Power Transmission projects Department tries to arrive national grid to the following regions around the nation in 2018-2019 Fiscal Year;

  • Madae island and near area via 66 kV Kyaukphu - Madae transmission line
  • Hpakan and near area via 66 kV Mogaung - Hpakan transmission line
  • Myawaddy and near area via 230 kV Mawlamyine - Myawaddy transmission line
  • Kawkareik and near area via 66 kV Myawaddy - Kawkareik transmission line
  • Kalaywa and near area via 66 kV Yazagyo - Kalaywa transmission line
  • Thanpyuzayat and near area via 66 kV Mawlamyine - Thanpyuzayat transmission line
  • Ngazun and near area via 66 kV Myingyan - Ngazun transmission line
  • Ngwe Saung  and near area via 66 kV Pathein - Ngwe Saung transmission line
  • Nga Yoke Kaung and near area via 66 kV Nga Yoke Kaung - Nga Yoke Kaung Taung transmission line

MOEE performs the first project as 500 kV transmission line as well as short term / long term projects simultaneously. MOEE’s staffs endeavor to make more electricity production, transmission, distribution as well as having qualified electricity day and night.

Today is auspicious day for Yathedaung Township. For power sector development, we urge all of Myanmar people to cooperate carefully with MOEE in construction works of electricity and stability of completed transmission lines.
