UNION Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing attended the virtual meeting of the 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and associated meetings hosted by Viet Nam from 17 to 20 November yesterday morning from Nay Pyi Taw.
The opening ceremony of the meetings and the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2020 was held and Vice Minister for Industry and Trade of Viet Nam and the rotating Chairman of ASEAN Energy Mr Dang Hoang An delivered the opening speech.
The 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (38th AMEM), the 6th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting with International Energy Agency (6th AMEM-IEA) and ASEAN Energy Awards Ceremony were held. Union Minister U Win Khaing discussed the completion of the Phase1 (2016-2020) of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation- APAEC; the programmes to be continued to implement the Phase 2 (2021-2025); cooperation with international organizations and development partners to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy conversion; resilience of the energy sector to the effects of the COVID-19 crisis and renewable energy development; energy security and electricity security; and reforming new energy policies during the meetings.
After the meetings, the Union Minister also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Mr Supattanapong Punmeechaow to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fields of electricity, energy and investment.
The 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and Associated Meetings were attended by the energy ministers from the ASEAN countries, senior officials, officials from the International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and ASEAN+3 countries -- China, Japan and South Korea and representatives from the development partner countries -- Australia, India, New Zealand, Russia and the USA.
The Union Minister will also participate in the 17th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting with the ASEAN+3 countries (17th AMEM+3), 4th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting with International Renewable Energy Agency (4th AMEM-IRENA) and 14th East Asia Summit Economic Ministers Meeting (EAS-EMM) online.
